Walmart WFS fee calculator — fulfillment, storage, and what's left

By Marginely Editorial · Last updated October 11, 2026 · How we check this page

Walmart's fees are simpler than Amazon's: no monthly subscription, a single category referral fee, and optional WFS fulfillment. Marginely shows your net profit, margin and ROI per order, then puts the same product side-by-side against Amazon so you can see which channel keeps more. Selling the same SKU on a third channel changes the arithmetic again — the TikTok Shop fee calculator runs the commission and fulfillment side of that comparison. No login.

The Amazon side uses the same fulfillment estimate as our Amazon calculators — Amazon’s 2026 rate card for the size tier these dimensions give (holiday peak rates from October 15, 2026), the Low-Price rate under $10, and the 3.5% fuel & logistics surcharge.

What this WFS fee calculator uses

Every WFS number in the calculator comes from Walmart's own WFS pricing page and the Marketplace Learn guide WFS fees (last updated May 27, 2026). Nothing in the WFS breakdown is an industry estimate.

Shipping weight

Under 1 lb, Walmart uses the unit weight. From 1 lb up to 150 lb it uses the unit weight or the dimensional weight, whichever is greater, where dimensional weight = (L × W × H in inches) ÷ 139. The pricing page then says to add 0.25 lb for packaging materials and round up to the nearest pound. The calculator adds the 0.25 lb at every weight, because all eight worked examples on Walmart's pricing page come out to the cent that way, and three of them do not without it. An item just under a whole pound can therefore land one pound higher than the scale suggests.

Standard fulfillment fee per unit

Shipping weightFulfillment feeReturn processing fee
1 lb or less$3.45$4.70
2 lb$4.95$6.20
3 lb$5.45$6.70
4–20 lb$5.75 + $0.40 per lb over 4 lb$7.00 + $0.40 per lb over 4 lb
21–30 lb$15.55 + $0.40 per lb over 21 lb$15.55 + $0.40 per lb over 21 lb
31–50 lb$14.55 + $0.40 per lb over 31 lb$14.55 + $0.40 per lb over 31 lb
51 lb and over$17.55 + $0.40 per lb over 51 lb$17.55 + $0.40 per lb over 51 lb
Big & bulky, up to 500 lb$155 + $0.80 per lb over 90 lb$155 + $0.80 per lb over 90 lb

The 21–30 lb band starts higher than the 31–50 lb band. That is how Walmart prints it, and the calculator follows the table as printed.

Extra fees on standard items

Girth is 2 × (width + height). The calculator reads oversize and big & bulky from the package size you enter, so there is no tier to pick by hand. Big & bulky items (over 150 lb, longest side over 108 in, or longest side + girth over 165 in) pay the freight rate and none of the extra fees.

Storage per cubic foot per month

Returns

Walmart charges the return processing fee above on returns it does not mark as its own fault. It waives the fee for returns it does mark as its own fault: lost in transit, lost after delivery, unable to deliver, item damaged, shipping box damaged, arrived late, and wrong item received. Enter the share of orders you expect to come back at your cost, and the calculator spreads that fee over every order. Walmart says apparel, hazmat and oversize items also pay extra on returns but does not print those amounts, so the return line leaves them out.

Not in the calculator

Unplanned prep chargebacks ($0.65 per unit for a missing or incorrect label, $0.80 for a missing or incorrect poly bag), disposal and removal orders, Inventory Transfer Services, and Walmart Connect ad spend. Add any that apply through "Other cost".

How Walmart Marketplace fees work in 2026

Walmart's structure is refreshingly simple compared to Amazon. There's no monthly subscription, no listing fee, and no setup fee — you pay a single referral fee — a category percentage of the total sales price, which under Walmart's definition includes the item price plus any shipping, handling and gift-wrap charges you collect — only when you sell. If you use Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), you add a per-unit fulfillment fee starting around $3.45 and storage at $0.75 per cubic foot. That's it.

Referral fees: 6–15% for most, 20% cap

Most categories sit between 6% and 15%. Walmart's highest rate is 20% (jewelry, on the first $250 of the price), well below the 45% Amazon charges on Amazon Device Accessories in its published referral schedule. A few categories are tiered by price — beauty, for example, jumps rate above certain price points — so a product near a tier boundary can see its fee change sharply. The rate note next to the category updates as you change inputs.

The WFS edge: the W+ badge

WFS isn't just fulfillment. Items fulfilled by WFS earn the W+ badge — Walmart's equivalent of Prime — which lifts Buy Box win rates and search visibility. Walmart says WFS fulfillment costs average 15% less per item than the competition, based on its own January–June 2024 data, and there's a $1.00 surcharge on items priced under $10 to watch. If you already do FBA, adding WFS is operationally similar.

Why compare against Amazon

If you already sell on Amazon, the question is whether Walmart keeps more. The side-by-side estimate uses the same landed cost and a comparable Amazon referral + FBA fee, so you can see the gap at a glance. The Amazon figure is an estimate — run the full Amazon calculator for tiered rates and exact FBA fees.

Still on Amazon FBA too? Check what Amazon owes you.

Since March 10, 2025 Amazon reimburses lost or damaged FBA stock at manufacturing cost, not retail — and reimbursement services say sellers typically recover 1–3% of annual sales once they file. If you're weighing channels on margin, that leak is part of the math. Estimate your unclaimed reimbursements →

Walmart assigns fees by contract category from the Marketplace Retailer Agreement — not always the category you pick at item setup — so mismatches happen. If you think you're charged wrong, open a case in Seller Center with the item ID. Confirm your exact rate before modeling margins.

New-Seller Savings (2026)

Walmart's New-Seller Savings 2026 page lists, for sellers who start selling after February 2:

  • 20% off base referral fees for the first $50K in GMV, 30% between $50K and $500K, and 40% over $500K, up to $72K off referral fees.
  • 10% off WFS fulfillment fees until you reach $2,000 in savings.
  • Up to $1,000 in Search Engine Marketing credits and up to $500 in Walmart Connect ad credits.

The 2025 program offered different terms, including 25% off WFS fulfillment and 50% off storage, and some seller guides still quote those. The calculator uses full published rates, without the discount.

What this calculator doesn't include

Walmart Connect ad spend, prep chargebacks, disposal and removal, and sales tax aren't modeled — add them via "Other cost" for a fully loaded number. Storage and returns are in the WFS breakdown; set the months held and your return rate under "Fulfillment & extras". For a single SKU, Walmart's WFS Cost Estimator is the final word. The Amazon comparison is an estimate to flag the gap, not a substitute for the full Amazon calculator. Figures are estimates, not financial advice.

Worked example: one product, the whole Walmart math

Take an illustrative $25 Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden item with an $8 landed cost, fulfilled by WFS. The referral fee at 15% is $3.75. WFS fulfillment starts around $3.45 for a small, light unit. Net before other costs: $25 − $8 − $3.75 − $3.45 ≈ $9.80, a ~39% margin — before storage ($0.75 per cubic foot), returns, and any Walmart Connect ad spend. That's the shape of every Walmart P&L: one percentage, one fulfillment fee, and the quiet line items you add on top. This calculator runs exactly this chain when you enter your own numbers, and the "Other cost" field is where the quiet items belong.

Now the same math near the bottom of the price range, because that's where Walmart's structure bites. An illustrative $8 Beauty item: referral at 8% ($10 or less) is just $0.64 — but WFS adds ~$3.45 fulfillment plus the $1.00 under-$10 surcharge. Fee load: about $5.09 on an $8 sale, or roughly 64% of revenue before you've paid for the product. The lesson generalizes: Walmart's referral percentages are friendly at low prices, but WFS's flat per-unit costs dominate cheap items. Under about $10 retail, WFS only works with very low landed costs or multi-unit baskets; self-fulfillment (or a higher price point) may be the better structure.

Reading the tier boundaries: Beauty and Jewelry

Walmart's two headline tiers behave differently, and the difference is worth cash. Beauty is a whole-price tier: 8% at $10 or less, 15% above — so a $10.00 item pays about $0.80 while a $10.01 item pays about $1.50. Crossing the boundary by one cent nearly doubles the fee, which makes $10.00 — the top of the 8% band — the structurally efficient beauty price point; the familiar $9.99 gives up a cent of revenue for no fee benefit. Jewelry is a portion tier: 20% on the first $250, 5% only on the amount above. An illustrative $400 piece pays $50 + $7.50 = $57.50 (an effective ~14.4%), not $80 — so Walmart's "20% ceiling" overstates what higher-priced jewelry actually pays. If you model jewelry with a flat 20%, you'll walk away from listings that are actually profitable.

Structural differences the side-by-side can't show

The Amazon comparison in this calculator equalizes the arithmetic — same landed cost, comparable referral and fulfillment — but three structural differences don't fit in a number. First, fee ceiling and spread: Walmart tops out at 20% (jewelry's first tier) where Amazon reaches 45% in its most expensive category, and Walmart's computer/PC rate of 6% is among the lowest on either platform — category mix changes which platform is cheaper more than any single rate does. Second, the W+ badge economics: WFS items carry Walmart's Prime-equivalent badge, and on a marketplace with fewer competing sellers per listing, badge-driven Buy Box and search lift can matter more per dollar of fulfillment fee than FBA's does on a saturated Amazon listing. Third, catalogue competition: Walmart's marketplace is younger and thinner in many niches — the same product that fights twenty FBA offers may face two or three on Walmart. Fees decide margin per order; competition decides how many orders there are. Model both before concluding which channel "keeps more."

Using New-Seller Savings without building on sand

Walmart's 2026 New-Seller Savings program takes 20–40% off base referral fees by GMV tier, up to $72K, and 10% off WFS fulfillment up to $2,000. The planning mistake is pricing your catalogue against discounted fees: the program is time- and volume-limited, and its terms have changed year to year. The discipline this calculator supports: model every SKU at full published rates first — that's your durable margin — then treat NSS savings as launch-period cash you deliberately reinvest (inventory depth, Walmart Connect tests, review velocity). A SKU that only works inside the discount window doesn't work.

Questions sellers ask about Walmart fees

Does Walmart charge a monthly subscription or listing fee?
No. There's no monthly subscription, no per-listing fee and no setup fee — the referral fee on each sale is the only mandatory charge. Optional costs (WFS fulfillment and storage, Walmart Connect advertising) apply only when you use them. That makes Walmart unusually cheap to test: a slow catalogue costs you nothing to keep listed.
Is WFS required, or can I ship orders myself?
WFS is optional — seller-fulfilled Walmart Marketplace works fine and avoids WFS's per-unit fees entirely. The trade-off is the W+ badge, which only WFS items carry, and its effect on Buy Box and search placement. A common pattern is WFS for your fast movers, seller fulfillment for slow or oversized items where WFS economics don't clear.
How does the $1.00 under-$10 surcharge actually apply?
It's a WFS charge added to the fulfillment fee on items that retail under $10 — it exists because flat pick-pack costs don't scale down with price. It does not apply to seller-fulfilled orders. If a $9-ish WFS item is marginal, test either a price at or above $10 or a multi-unit pack that lifts the order value past the threshold.
The rate I'm charged doesn't match the category I picked at setup — why?
Walmart bills by the contract category assigned under the Marketplace Retailer Agreement, which doesn't always match the category you chose at item setup. Pull the fee from a real recent order in Seller Center, compare it against the published schedule, and open a case with the item ID if the assignment looks wrong. Do this before modeling margins on a new product line, not after.

This page also shows an Amazon-side net estimate for comparison, and that column uses Amazon's own published fulfillment-fee rules — the 2026 weight-based FBA rate card (Seller Central — FBA fulfillment fees), the Low-Price FBA rate under $10, and the 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge that Amazon applies to fulfillment fees from April 17, 2026. Amazon announced that surcharge in its Seller Forums News and Announcements board, in a post by Amazon's own announcements account News_Amazon titled "Fuel and logistics-related surcharge: FBA, MCF, and BWP in US and CA," published April 2, 2026: "Starting April 17, 2026, a 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge will be applied to fulfillment fees across Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) in the US and Canada." We cite the forum post because Amazon did not publish this surcharge on its Selling Partner announcements site — we checked sellingpartners.aboutamazon.com on September 15, 2026, including the 2026 fee-update announcement, and it carries no fuel-surcharge notice.
