How Amazon selling fees work in 2026
Amazon takes two main cuts on every FBA sale: a referral fee (a category-based commission on the sale price) and an FBA fulfillment fee (a flat per-unit charge for pick, pack and ship, based on size and weight). Referral fees were frozen for 2026 — unchanged since January 2024 — while FBA fulfillment fees for standard-size items priced $10–$50 rose by about $0.08 per unit on average from January 15, 2026 ($0.05 under $10, $0.31 over $50). A holiday peak card applies from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027.
Enter the packaged length, width, height and weight and the calculator finds the size tier and shipping weight, then reads the fee off Amazon's 2026 rate card for that tier and price band. Three 2026 rules shape that number. A fuel & logistics surcharge of 3.5% has applied to fulfillment fees — and only to fulfillment fees, not referral or storage — since April 17, 2026. Products priced under $10 bill on the Low-Price FBA column, which Amazon says runs about $0.86 less per unit on average; that is why the unit economics of $9.99 versus $10.00 swing more than the penny suggests. And from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027 the holiday peak card applies: the rate card menu follows today's date unless you pick one. Type your own fulfillment fee into the field and none of this is applied — a figure copied from Seller Central already carries whatever Amazon charged.
2026 FBA fulfillment fees by size tier, non-peak and holiday peak
Amazon bills a holiday peak rate card from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027, and the non-peak 2026 card the rest of the year. Each cell below is non-peak / peak, for products that are not apparel or dangerous goods, before the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge. A unit that ships on or after October 15 pays the peak rate even if it was ordered earlier. To see what the peak window adds across your monthly sales, use the FBA peak fee calculator. The figures are copied from Amazon's Seller Central page 2026 US FBA fulfillment fee changes, which also carries the apparel and dangerous goods cards the calculator uses when you pick those product types.

Size tier comes from the packaged dimensions and the larger of unit weight or dimensional weight (length × width × height ÷ 139). Small standard means 16 oz or less and at most 15 × 12 × 0.75 inches; large standard means 20 lb or less and at most 18 × 14 × 8 inches; small bulky allows up to 37 × 28 × 20 inches and 50 lb, large bulky up to 59 × 33 × 33 inches and 50 lb, with length plus girth up to 130 inches for both. Small standard fees use unit weight only; the other tiers bill on the larger of unit or dimensional weight, and bulky and extra-large units are measured with a minimum width and height of 2 inches. Those rules are from Amazon's Product size tiers and Shipping weight pages. Price $10.00 and $50.00 exactly bill in the $10–$50 column.
Monthly storage is billed per cubic foot on top of the fulfillment fee: $0.78 for standard-size and $0.56 for oversize from January to September, $2.40 and $1.40 from October to December, with higher rates for dangerous goods ($0.99 and $3.63 standard-size). Sellers storing over 25 cubic feet with more than 22 weeks of supply also pay a storage utilization surcharge, which this calculator does not add. Source: Monthly inventory storage fees.
The 2026 changes that aren't in this calculator
Two 2026 shifts hit margin outside the referral + FBA math above. Amazon ended US prep and labeling on January 1, 2026, so non-compliant inbound shipments now carry a defect fee of roughly $0.32–$5.72 per unit (up from $0.02–$0.07). And since March 10, 2025, lost or damaged stock is reimbursed at manufacturing cost, not retail — a $50 item that cost $15 to source pays back $15. Factor both in before trusting a thin margin.
FBA fee lines this calculator leaves out
These charges depend on how you ship and how long stock sits, not on the sale price, so the calculator does not add them to every unit. The amounts are from Amazon's Seller Central pages Inbound defect fees and 2026 US referral and FBA fee changes.
| Fee | 2026 amount |
|---|---|
| Inbound defect fee, per misrouted, deleted or abandoned unit (shipments created on or after January 15, 2026) | $0.32 small standard; $0.38–$1.74 large standard by weight; $1.38–$5.25 small bulky; $1.43–$5.72 large bulky |
| Same fee, shipments created on or before January 14, 2026 | $0.02–$0.07 |
| Aged inventory surcharge, 12–15 months, per month | $0.30 per unit or $6.90 per cubic foot, whichever is greater |
| Aged inventory surcharge, over 15 months, per month | $0.35 per unit or $7.90 per cubic foot, whichever is greater |
The inbound defect fee replaces the inbound placement fee on the units it covers, so a late or misrouted shipment no longer pays both. Amazon puts the average at $0.60 per unit. From 2026 the low-inventory-level fee is charged per FNSKU rather than per parent ASIN, and grocery is exempt. It applies only when both the 30-day and 90-day historical days of supply are under 28 days, and runs from $0.32 to $0.89 per unit for small standard items and $0.36 to $1.11 for large standard items.
Referral fees are tiered in some categories
Most categories charge a flat 15%, but several are tiered, meaning the rate changes with price. Clothing is the clearest example: items at or below $15 pay 5%, the $15–$20 band pays 10%, and above $20 pays 17%. Grocery charges 8% at or under $15 and 15% above. This calculator applies the correct tier automatically when you change the price — which is exactly why the rate note next to the price field updates as you type.
The $0.30 minimum referral fee
Most categories carry a $0.30 minimum referral fee per unit. On sub-$4 items the minimum, not the percentage, sets your fee — so a cheap accessory can be quietly unprofitable even at a "low" rate. The calculator enforces this floor.
Use the price slider to defend your margin
Drag the price slider and watch margin and ROI move. When a competitor undercuts you or Amazon nudges fulfillment fees, this is the fastest way to find the lowest price you can run while protecting your target margin. Bookmark it to re-check whenever you reprice.
2026 referral fees by category (quick reference)
- 15% (flat): Home & Kitchen, Toys, Sports, Office, Tools, Garden — Pet Supplies is 15% too, except 22% for veterinary diets
- Beauty, Health & Personal Care, and Baby Products: 8% at or under $10.00, 15% above $10.00
- Electronics: 8% (consumer electronics); Electronics Accessories 15% up to $100, 8% on the portion above
- Clothing & Accessories: 5% at/under $15, 10% for $15–$20, 17% above $20
- Grocery & Gourmet: 8% at or under $15.00, 15% above $15.00
- Beauty: 8% at/under $10, 15% above
- Jewelry: 20% up to $250, 5% on the portion above
- Amazon Device Accessories: 45%
Referral fees are calculated on the full transaction value (item price plus any shipping/gift-wrap you charge), not just the item price. Verify your exact category in Seller Central — listing in the wrong browse node is a common, costly error.
Margin vs ROI — which should you target?
Margin (profit ÷ sale price) tells you how much of each sale you keep — useful for pricing and PPC headroom. ROI (profit ÷ cost) tells you how hard your cash is working — useful for deciding what to reorder. A high-margin product with slow turnover can have worse ROI than a thin-margin product that sells fast. Watch both; reorder on ROI, price on margin.
What this calculator doesn't include
The storage utilization surcharge, aged inventory surcharges, the Overmax handling fee, inbound placement fees, returns processing, and advertising are not included — add them via "Other cost / unit" if you want a fully loaded number. Base monthly storage is included for the months you enter. The fulfillment fee follows Amazon's published 2026 card for the size you enter; Amazon bills on its own measurement at check-in, so pull the exact figure from your listing's fee preview in Seller Central for precision. Figures are estimates, not financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
Are 2026 Amazon referral fees higher than 2025?
No — referral fees are frozen for 2026, unchanged since January 2024. What rose in 2026 is the FBA fulfillment fee (about $0.08 per unit on average for standard-size items priced $10–$50 from January 15, 2026, $0.31 above $50) plus new inbound defect fees after Amazon ended free US prep on January 1, 2026. The referral percentage itself hasn't moved.
Does this calculator include FBA storage fees?
It includes the base monthly storage fee: enter the packaged size and how many months a unit sits before it sells, and the calculator charges $0.78 per cubic foot per month for standard-size items from January to September and $2.40 from October to December (oversize $0.56 and $1.40). The storage utilization surcharge and aged inventory surcharges aren't included; add them under "Other cost / unit" for a fully loaded margin.
Why is my real FBA fee different from the number here?
The calculator uses Amazon's published 2026 rate card for the size and weight you enter. Amazon bills on the dimensions and weight it measures at check-in, so a box that measures a quarter inch larger can move to a heavier band or a different tier. Pull the precise figure from your listing's fee preview in Seller Central and type it into the "FBA fulfillment fee" field for an exact result.
What referral fee applies if my item is under $15?
It depends on the category. The most common rate is 15%, but tiered categories are cheaper at low prices — clothing is 5% at or under $15.00, grocery 8% at or under $15.00, beauty 8% at or under $10.00. Watch the $0.30 per-unit minimum, though: on sub-$4 items the minimum, not the percentage, sets your fee.
